Carmel School celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm on August 15. The event was marked by a deep sense of patriotism and pride. The celebration began with the guard of honour, where the guest of honour, Ananya Dinesh Rao, was escorted by the school band led by Sanvi Shetty.
The dignitaries included Sr Smitha AC, the joint secretary, the principal, the administrator, Hadrian Veigas' swimming coach, his parents, and the honourable judges. Following the guard of honor, the national flag was hoisted by the chief guest, accompanied by the dignitaries, as the school band played the national anthem.
The choir added to the moment's spirit by singing 'Jhanda Ooncha Rahe Hamara', which filled the atmosphere with patriotism.
Teacher Deepthi then led the gathering in reciting the pledge on Nasha Mukt Bharat, reinforcing the school’s commitment to a drug-free India. The programme continued with a prayer song, invoking blessings for the country and its people.
Laasya A Kotian extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and guests with her gracious words of welcome. This was followed by a march past by six well-disciplined troupes, led by Akshaj, the SPL, holding the school flag. The march was accompanied by an impressive commentary from Aliya and Poorvi.
To remind everyone of the significance of the day, Sanika K V and Siana Liva Crasta delivered a thoughtful speech on the importance of Independence Day, capturing the essence of the sacrifices made for the country’s freedom.
The chief guest, Ananya Dinesh Rao, in her address, emphasized the importance of unity and responsibility among students as the future of the nation.
The school also took this opportunity to honour Hadrian Veigas for his remarkable achievements in swimming, recognizing his coach and parents for their unwavering support. The event continued with a patriotic song, beautifully sung by the students, which ignited a deep sense of national pride among all present.
The day concluded with the prize distribution for the march past, where the best-performing troupes were awarded for their dedication and discipline. The vote of thanks was delivered by Atuf Hajara, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and organizers for making the event a grand success. The program was smoothly and efficiently compered by Sheryl Deena, whose poise and grace added to the success of the event.
After the flag hoisting, students gathered in the school auditorium for a vibrant lineup of events organized by the students of class 7 A, B, and C.
The programme began with a prayer service, centered around the symbolic freedom tree, representing the values of liberty and unity. The celebration kicked off with a captivating welcome dance, setting a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere for the day. Aisha Ifra delivered the welcome speech, extending warm greetings to all present and reflecting on the importance of this historic day.
A meaningful Skit was performed by the students, highlighting the significance of Independence Day and the immense sacrifices made by our freedom fighters for the country’s independence. The audience was further enthralled by a mesmerising patriotic dance, and the air was filled with nationalistic pride as students sang a melodious patriotic song.
Teacher Redia introduced the esteemed guest, Naveen A K, highlighting his achievements and contributions. The guest then delivered a thoughtful message, encouraging students to uphold the values of independence and work towards the nation's growth.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Manvi Chowta, who expressed gratitude to all the participants and organizers for making the event a success. The smooth flow of the event was ensured by the competent compering team consisting of Aastha J Karkera, Ayat Fathima, Megan Karis Dsouza, Fathima Laiba, Niyathi Prashanth, and Tanisha R Amin.
