Report on ISA Projects

The British Council International School Activities is a benchmarking scheme that accredits schools as having outstanding level of support for:
      * Nurturing global citizenship in young people
      * Enriching teaching and learning.
 
ISA is a leadership challenge and fosters team building, innovation and project management.

Under the guidance of Sr. Juliet D. Barboza (Sr. M. Sarika A.C.) our Principal, seven projects were taken up by different classes. They were: National Fruits, Garden Flowers, Attire - Traditional Clothing, Currencies of the World, Milk and Milk Production, Healers – Medicinal Plants and Harvest Festivals.

Our tiny tots of Kindergarten had studied the size, nutritional values, advantages and the conditions for the growth of the National Fruits of Thailand, the United Kingdom, China, Malaysia and India. The students exhibited their scrap books, drawings and craft work on National Fruits. The different varieties of mangoes were identified and the delicacies produced from ripe as well as raw mangoes, were displayed. Students explained the preparation of these delicacies as they had visited the mango orchard and pickle making factory

In the second project, the students of Class I and II prepared and exhibited the varieties of Flowers in the form of origami which were identified from Australia, China, Korea, Canada and India. The students cultivated a flower garden in the school premises. They also dressed up in different flower costumes. Students explained some of the necessary conditions required for the growth of different flowers and made us all aware of the need for environment protection. To strengthen their activities they had visited Pilikula Nisargadhama.

The third project was about Traditional Clothing from selected countries, namely: Japan, Muscat, Tibet, China, Karnataka (India). The project was prepared and exhibited by Class III and IV. By analyzing the different traditional attire and the materials used for clothing, the students displayed various types of clothing in the form of charts, posters and also presented themselves in different attires. They visited some of the garment shops and studied their texture.
     
“A global economy requires global currency”. In order to learn about money transactions around the world, the Class V students creatively displayed Currencies of the U.A.E., the U.S.A., Japan, Australia and India. The economic way of spending money was shown in the form of International Mock Market. The students dressed up in different traditional costumes and displayed price tags of the goods in their respective currencies. They visited UAE exchange centre and observed the currencies of different countries.

Milk and the Milk Production were exhibited by the students of Class VI.  They visited a milk dairy and studied the processes of milk preservation. The students not only displayed the products but also prepared delicacies using milk. Charts were prepared and displayed on different breeds of cows from Sri Lanka, Denmark, Kuwait and India. The charts on comparative study of milk production and their nutritional values were displayed. Visitors were helped to understand the different ways in which milk gets adulterated. They had a Skype interactive session with the students of Carmel School, Kuwait.

Under the project Healers – Medicinal Plants, the students of Class VII displayed different medicinal plants, their healing qualities and the medicines extracted from the different parts of the plants. They made a comparative study by preparing delicacies, using medicinal plant as the main ingredient by collecting recipes from Uganda, Canada, Africa, Thailand and India. They explained the medicinal properties of different plants grown in the locality. A workshop was conducted for the students by Dr. Sneha. They visited Shobavana - an Ayurvedic medicinal pharmacy and also prepared a Herbarium in our school premises. The students had an interactive session with the students of Mount Carmel Girls’ Secondary School, Kenya.

Come Let Us Celebrate - Harvest Festivals was the theme taken by the students of Class VIII and IX. With great interest and enthusiasm, the students dressed up in the traditional costumes of Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka and India, and celebrated their harvest festivals. They prepared cuisines to celebrate particular festivals and exhibited their festival in dance forms.  Different models on harvest festivals were displayed. A comparative study of the methods used in harvesting in selected countries, under study, was made and harvest implements were displayed. They had visited the paddy fields and taken active part in transplantation of paddy. They exchanged their views with the students of Carmel Balika School, Sri Lanka.

Our students are privileged to have had the opportunities to use this technology, in order to explore and communicate with students across the world. These international activities with global dimension have helped our students to develop scientific skills of investigation. The students of each class were deeply engrossed in various activities. Each activity provided them with an approach to an International dimension. They explored for information through ICT, English, Mathematics, Science, EVS, History and Geography. Hats off to our students and their parents! They had taken immense trouble in executing these activities.

The management, visitors, parents, teachers and the students of Carmel School and sister institutions from the campus and the city expressed their appreciation of the hard work and efforts put in by the students and teachers to make these projects a grand success. We remain grateful to one and all.
