The Nativity of Blessed Virgin Mary and “The Girl Child Day in India” was celebrated in our school on 7th September 2018. When God chose to send his son into the world, to take human flesh, he chose a woman, Mary. This choice of a woman is indeed worth reflecting, because it indicates God’s way of doing things extraordinary. Over the centuries, there has been violation of the basic rights of women. They are subjected to various forms of disrespect and exploitation in society, especially in our own country. Rapes, abuse, female foeticide, dowry, sexual exploitation etc. Nearly every day there are reports of sexual violence against women.
Each time we celebrate the Birth of Mary, we confidently hope for an increase of peace in our hearts and a greater acceptance of the Girl Child in the world. The celebration began with a mass officiated by Fr. Maxim Rosario. The catholic students honoured Mama Mary by offering flowers and donating grains, coconuts and vegetables to the needy as love offering.
In school, the students of class IX B explicated the importance of the day through a relevant prayer service. The birth of Mother Mary and her admirable virtues were gracefully presented in the form of a tableau. An enthralling dance was performed on Save Girl Child and apprised the audience with captivating slogans. The programme ended with a short video clip on “ Save future mothers”.
The principal, in her message enlightened the students, about the importance of prayer in their daily lives. She urged the students to imbibe some of the virtues of Mother Mary for a peaceful and holistic life.
