The General Body Meeting for the year 2018-19 was held in our school Auditorium on 31st July, in two batches. First session was for classes K.G. to IV and the second session for classes V to X. Both the sessions began with a prayer dance Sr.Maria Kripa, the Joint secretary of our school was present for the programme.
Mrs. Lara and Mrs. Lolita compered the programme. Mrs. Ashwitha and Mrs. Liffin welcomed the guests. Mrs. Sonia and Mrs. Kausalya placed before the parents the Annual Report for the year 2017-18. The resource persons Mrs. Lugina Miranda and Mrs. Mariella D’Souza were introduced by Mrs. Nisha and Mrs. Cynthia.
Mrs. Lugina Miranda, the speaker of the day holds a masters degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling. At present she is a Course Coordinator for Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling at St. Agnes PG Centre. She highlighted some of the indispensable aspects to the parents. They were
- Parents should be the role models to their children.
- Parents should not stress their children by keeping high expectations.
- They should love them, accept them as they are. They should guide and motivate them because each child is unique and precious.
- Children are filled with potentials and the parents should not create unnecessary tensions among the slow learners.
- If the child feels happy, safe and confident, he/she will improve in studies. She urged the parents to create space, conducive atmosphere for the child to feel the same.
Mrs. Mariella D’Souza, the Resource Person, holds a M.Phil degree in Psychiatric Social Work. At present she is an Associate Professor at Kasturba Medical College, Attavar, Mangaluru. She illustrated some of the important features to the parents. They were:
- Giving too much attention to the children will pamper them which leads to indiscipline.
- Parents should invest quality time to their children rather wasting time on smart phones and laptops.
- Parents can build up emotional security by having good rapport with their children.
- If children are not satisfied with their emotional needs, they may have psychological breakdown.
- Mistakes should be corrected right from the childhood.
- Parents should be aware of their capacities and should not keep high expectations.
- Parents should encourage and appreciate every success of the child whether great or small.
Sr. Maria Kripa, the Joint Secretary addressed the parents briefly.
The top scorers of class X CBSE Examination and their parents were honoured.
Sr. Sarika, the Principal thanked the parents for their cooperation and support. She addressed the gathering and gave some guidelines and also gave them some essential notices. Mrs. Dimple and Mrs. Zeena proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting ended with the National Anthem.
